BUILDING BETTER RESUMES

Because TransExec recruits the best people in the industry, and many of the candidates we talk with have been in their current positions for a long time, some have resume writing skills that are a bit "rusty." For those for whom this is true, it might be worth reading the following reminders.

First of all, remember that your resume is a picture of you. Of course you will start at the top with your name, address, phone number, and email address. But it is generally no longer necessary to state your "goals" or "objectives."

Then, naturally, you will list your jobs, titles, and what you did. But that's where many people stop. And that is not enough. You want to tell a potential employer not just what your duties or responsi-bilities are/were but also HOW you achieved your goals and what your ACCOMPLISHMENTS were. Think of it this way: What was the challenge? How was it met? What were the results?

For example, if you are in sales, what was the challenge in getting more customers? How did you meet that challenge? By how much of a percentage did you improve sales? If you are in operations, did you initiate any new systems for working more productively? How is the company better off now than before you joined it? For example: "I instituted new financial reporting systems that saved the company more than $750,000 over one year."

TranExec is happy to help you with your resume if you so desire.
